The NCBER Business Census project concept was three years in the making and
has involved a number of organizations across the United States. One organization in particular has played a critical role from day one: The International Economic Development Council.
Under the leadership of Jeff Finkle, IEDC has been instrumental in gaining the initial support as well as important input into the design of the program and census questions.
Shortly after the inception of the program, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives joined forces with IEDC and NCBER as well. Since NCBER
always execute business census projects in partnership with local economic
development organizations, it is natural that NCBER has partnered with these two
national organizations that support local economic development and chamber organizations.
NCBER Census projects are national in scope but local in focus. As a result
both IEDC and ACCE continue to provide input into the process with the aim
of support world-class information as well as a new, national data standard for economic development.
